Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• Minimum 6 months of laboratory experience (clinical or hospital) required.
• Phlebotomy training program (240 hours) preferred.
• Leadership experience preferred.

Oversees clerical/LPAA operations, including clerical support of laboratory operations, problem resolution, technical development and procedure implementation, etc. Evaluates and trains phlebotomy staff. As applicable for the laboratory section: Performs routine Laboratory clerical procedures, collects patient specimens; accessions and distributes specimens and / or blood products; prepares specimens for analysis; prepare blood products for patient and of blood products.

Responsibilities

• Trains and evaluates new staff and students from area phlebotomy programs.
• Performs clerical duties.
• Effectively oversees personnel assigned to phlebotomy section. In the North Tower- ensures that OPL drawstation and PEDS Infusion - 4th floor is covered. Make sure everyone gets a lunch, and coverage is provided. Assists Supervisor in assessing scheduling needs during requests for PTO/UTO. Takes a list when understaffed vacancies or call outs. Accepts on-call duty for section. Records call outs and tardies on attendance sheet.
• Obtains and processes blood specimens from geriatric, adult, pediatric and infant patients. Make sure draws are getting done in a timely manner and delivered/tubed to the appropriate areas.
• Cut the phlebotomy list, rotate pediatric patients, and south tower. Directs staff . Pull pending list to ensure all draws are dealt with.
• Assist with problems as issues arise via the phlebotomy phone , PSR, Email, etc. Handle issues if possible, if you're unable contact a supervisor. Handle all phlebotomy calls
• Prepares specimens for testing as defined by phlebotomy and departmental policies.
• Work area and work tray are kept clean according to policy.
• Identifies and works to correct problems in the section.
• Performs audits and ensures that hospital, laboratory safety policies are adhered to. Report findings to Supervisor. No eating or drinking while on duty. Phlebotomy carts in the hallway and be on their best behaviors.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• High school graduate.
• 6 months previous laboratory experience clinical or hospital based is required.
• Completion of phlebotomy training program (240 hours) preferred.
• Experience in a Leadership position, preferred.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation

Employees in this position: Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a 'non-frequent driver'

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile

a) at least once daily,

b) at least five individual trips per week or

c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Requirements for CLSC Area: Must possess or be eligible for national certification in phlebotomy;
• certification in CPR is required.
