Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate of science and 2-3 years of experience in lab operations or facilities management is required.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and safety requirements.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move heavy items like gas cylinders.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and participate in on-call rotation.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for research laboratories.
• Preferred: experience in an academic research environment; space planning and lab relocations; maintenance of scientific equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lab Operations Support: perform twice-weekly floor inspections; transport biohazard waste; collect, wash, sterilize and return lab glassware; monitor levels of critical research gases; respond to RF helpdesk tickets.
• Freezer Monitoring, Preventative Maintenance, and Emergency Response: monitor Aegis system; periodic freezer defrosts and filter cleanings; assist with emergency response during work hours; participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Space Planning and Equipment Management: support space allocation and planning; assist with lab expansions, contractions, relocations; coordinate lab setup for new faculty; relocate large equipment; perform routine preventative maintenance on centrifuges, shakers, incubators.
• Shared Lab Consumables Management: inventory consumables; place orders using the BENS system; stock lab consumables in washrooms.
