Job summary

BigHat Biosciences is seeking a part-time Lab Operations Assistant to support daily lab functions in San Mateo. The role involves hands-on tasks, maintaining clean, stocked spaces, and assisting the lab team across 2–3 days per week. It reports to the Lab Manager.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, with an interest in biology or biotech and some lab exposure. Hours are 10–16 per week, with schedule to be discussed.

Qualifications

• Must be detail-oriented with a proactive work style.
• Interest in biology, chemistry, or biotech is a plus.
• Experience in a laboratory environment is favorable.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace (Sheets) preferred.

Lab Operations Assistant (Part-Time)

Description

The role: BigHat Biosciences is seeking a self-motivated individual to support the day-to-day needs of lab operations functions. This part-time contract role will assist with the routine hands-on tasks within the BigHat space, keep lab spaces clean and well-stocked, and work alongside the BigHat lab team to ensure everyone has what they need. This role is planned for 10-16 hours per week across 2-3 days, with the exact schedule to be discussed. This role reports directly to the Lab Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on common laboratory equipment.
• Ensure sufficient stock of washed and autoclaved glassware.
• Perform sterilization and sanitization of equipment.
• Restock commonly used materials in the various BigHat lab spaces.
• Prepare common lab materials, such as pre-labelled plates.
• Support lab staff with basic requests.
• Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the lab and storage spaces.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• Interest in learning about biology, chemistry, or the biotech field.
• Self-motivated individual with attention to detail, excited to work in a dynamic start-up environment.
• Experience in a laboratory environment or lab operations is a plus
• Experience with Google Suite, with a focus on Google Sheets.
