Job Overview

The TE Connectivity Industrial Filters Subvertical has an opportunity for a Lab Manager/Test Engineer/EHS Coordinator at our Edison, New Jersey office. This division provides Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Filters and Power Quality solutions to customers in the Industrial Automation and Electrification markets.

The Lab Manager/Test Engineer will apply managerial skills and knowledge of Safety and Lab Procedures to ensure the safe operation of the Edison site, including office and lab spaces. Responsibilities include creating Standard Work Instructions, maintaining equipment calibration, scheduling testing activities, reordering supplies, and upholding testing standards. The role involves implementing health and safety policies, supervising EHS practices, managing EHS-related changes, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

The ideal candidate will have substantial knowledge of Electromechanical Test Engineering principles, practices, and procedures, including familiarity with commercial and military test standards. The role requires collaboration with Safety Agencies, Development Engineering, Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and outside vendors to ensure smooth product release and maintenance.

This position reports directly to the Engineering Lead in Edison and involves collaboration across functions, especially with Sales and Product Management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work with multi-functional project teams including Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Operations, Quality, Global Product Approvals, and Vendors.
  2. Design, develop, and execute test plans to de-risk new products and ensure compliance with requirements.
  3. Create Standard Work Instructions for Electromechanical Testing.
  4. Participate in Design to Value projects and competitive teardowns to reduce costs and identify value opportunities.
  5. Evaluate manufacturing deviations and decide on acceptance.
  6. Develop qualification test plans for product migrations.
  7. Oversee compliance and routine testing, identifying areas for improvement.
  8. Assess EHS hazards, participate in engineering solutions, and promote safety training.
  9. Investigate EHS emergencies and develop response plans.
  10. Coordinate team meetings to enhance EHS programs and standards.
  11. Report to senior management on EHS issues and promote consistent standards.
  12. Advise on fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, machinery safeguarding, and occupational health.
  13. Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and policies.
  14. Monitor and deliver safety training to staff.
  15. Manage manufacturing and facility permits, inspections, budgets, and audits.
  16. Support safety management initiatives and process improvements.

This position requires access to controlled information under ITAR and EAR regulations. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or refugees.

Candidate Background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in RFI/EMI testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of Basic Quality tools and Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis tools.
  • 10+ years of experience in Test Engineering.
  • Experience with electrical tests such as dielectric withstand, insulation resistance, etc.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Design of experiments skills.
  • Ability to challenge technical solutions.
  • Experience working with multicultural teams.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, results-driven, team-oriented.
  • Knowledge of global certifications (UL, IEC) is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, with strong presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Compensation

Competitive salary range: $117,200–$175,200, based on experience and location. Total compensation includes base salary, incentives, and benefits.
