Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager to join Ascension St. Vincent in Jacksonville, FL.

This leadership role directs Histology and Cytology operations, ensures regulatory compliance, oversees staffing and training, and maintains service levels across the department. The position requires a strong background in histology, extensive supervisory experience, and a proven ability to manage complex laboratory operations in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
• 5+ years of experience as a Histotechnologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
• 5+ years of supervisory experience managing several direct reports.
• Florida Histology Supervisor License.
• ASCP Histology certification (preferred).
• 5+ years of experience managing a team of supervisors, managers or other people leaders (preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations.
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures.
• Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees.
• Ability to solve problems and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
• Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operational activities of the Histology and Cytology departments, both technical and non-technical operations.
• Effectively manage staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule for adequate coverage.
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory staff.
• Perform bench-level laboratory testing as needed to support workflow.
• Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels and meets client needs and metrics.
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues with leadership and directors as needed.
• Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, State, ISO and other regulatory requirements.
• Develop and implement laboratory procedures and install equipment and methods.
• Manage staff recruitment, hiring, performance management, training and development.
• Communicate effectively with leadership, clients, sales, and corporate operations.
• Lead departmental meetings and ensure effective communication.
• Investigate deviations to implement corrective actions.
• Maintain technical knowledge and a safe work environment.
• Oversee operations and administration of the Histology and Cytology testing.

LabCorp is seeking aClinical Laboratory Manager to join our team atAscension St. Vincent in Jacksonville, FL.

Work Schedule

Monday- Friday 8am-5pm with occasional weekends

Job Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operational activities of the Hisotlogy and Cytology departments, both the technical and non-technical operations
• Effectively manage the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime, and adjust as needed
• Directly supervisor, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and have ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff
• Perform bench‑level laboratory testing as needed to support workflow, troubleshoot issues, or ensure continuity of operations
• Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels, meeting the needs of our clients and corporate service metrics established for TAT
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with the Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors or corporate operations
• Ensure laboratory is compliant with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, etc) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct
• Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods
• Manage staff including recruiting & hiring qualified and enthusiastic employees, performance management, training and development
• Ensure effective communication with leadership, clients, sales, corporate operations, as well as direct reports and all departmental staff
• Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate departmental communication
• Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action
• Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department(s) for the laboratory testing
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
• 5 years or more of experience as a Hisotechnologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory
• 5 years or more of supervisory experience managing several direct reports
• Florida Histology Supervisor License

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP Histology certification
• 5 or more years of experience managing a team of supervisors, managers or other people leaders

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement

This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory testing for the Histology and Cytology Department.

Additionally, the Laboratory Manager will create, implement, and manage the policies, procedures and practices for optimal performance of the clinical diagnostics laboratory.
