Job summary

Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY, seeks a Lab Manager to support animal behavior and bioacoustics research. Work with the PI, postdocs, and students on field- and lab-based studies, equipment maintenance, and compliance.

Responsibilities include coordinating permits, training students, and maintaining safety standards across field and lab activities. Start anticipated February 2027; priority for applications by Oct 19, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting and knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Ability to operate field and laboratory equipment such as Larson Davis Sound Level Meter, autonomous recording units, GPS.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple research activities.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills for students and collaborators.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to drive for university business.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement field- and laboratory-based behavioral research.
  • Maintain research equipment and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate permits and reporting requirements.
  • Support day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Facilitate undergraduate participation in research projects.
  • Ensure safety and compliance practices in the lab.
