Position Overview


The G. Brint Ryan College of Business seeks a full-time behavioral lab manager position located in the Business Leadership building (BLB) at the University of North Texas.

The position involves managing the lab's resources, supervising MBA student assistants, and administering data collection software (SONA) across multiple departments in the college. The lab manager will work closely with faculty members, PhD students, and undergraduate student participants to conduct a diverse set of research studies. The research conducted spans numerous topics, including consumer behavior, organizational behavior, behavioral accounting, logistics and operations, information systems, financial decision making, charitable giving, and group dynamics.

The lab manager will also oversee the daily research being conducted in the lab, such as scheduling and supervising the running of online (SONA) or in-lab studies, as well as any administrative tasks of the lab. The lab manager will report to the Director of the Behavioral Lab.


Minimum Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic understanding of the research process

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills (scheduling, timelines, daily tasks)

  • Ability to supervise research assistants


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Managing the lab's resources

  • Supervising MBA student assistants

  • Administering data collection software (SONA)

  • Overseeing the collection of in-person lab studies


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, management, organizational behavior, psychology, or related fields, such as statistics or other scientific fields.

  • 1+ years of experience designing and collecting behavioral research studies.

  • Proficiency in Sona-Systems software.

  • Experience with statistical packages; SPSS, SAS, or R.

  • Proficiency in experimental survey design and experimental software skills; Qualtrics.


Job Duties:



  • Managing daily tasks in the administration of the SONA software platform.

  • Conducting experiments (in individual, dyadic, and small group contexts) for researchers in the behavioral lab (BLB 279).

  • Interfacing with IT staff regarding lab computer set-up and equipment.

  • Interfacing with RCoB facilities regarding granting access to BLB 279 (Behavioral Lab).

  • Hiring, training, and supervising student assistants to staff the lab.

  • Assisting faculty/doctoral students with applications to the Institutional Review Board.

  • Increasing the size of the SONA subject pool with more participating courses as needed to accommodate increased research activity of faculty and doctoral students.
