Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager for Ascension St. Vincent in St Johns, FL. This leadership role oversees Histology and Cytology laboratory operations and staff, ensuring high-quality diagnostics and compliant processes.

The position requires a strong background in chemical/biological sciences, extensive supervisory experience, and Florida licensure. Expect collaboration across departments and ongoing process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
• 5+ years of experience as a technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
• 5+ years of supervisory experience managing several direct reports.
• Florida Technologist Supervisor License.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operational activities of the departments, both technical and non-technical.
• Manage staffing and production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and appropriate overtime use.
• Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors; own department staff responsibilities.
• Perform bench-level testing as needed to support workflow or troubleshoot issues.
• Ensure the lab provides market-leading service levels meeting client needs and TAT metrics.
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues with leadership collaboration.
• Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, and other regulatory requirements.
• Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment/methods.
• Recruiting and hiring staff; performance management and development.
• Communicate effectively with leadership, clients, sales, and corporate operations.
• Conduct departmental meetings and ensure clear communication.
• Investigate deviations to ensure corrective actions.
• Maintain technical knowledge in assigned departments and lab testing.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager to join our team at Ascension St. Vincent in St Johns, FL.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with occasional weekends and some shifts.

Job Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operational activities of the departments, both the technical and non-technical operations
• Effectively manage the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime, and adjust as needed
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and have ownership and responsibility for all departmental staff
• Perform bench‑level laboratory testing as needed to support workflow, troubleshoot issues, or ensure continuity of operations
• Ensure the diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels, meeting the needs of our clients and corporate service metrics established for TAT
• Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with the Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors or corporate operations
• Ensure laboratory is compliant with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, ISO, etc) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct
• Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods
• Manage staff including recruiting & hiring qualified and enthusiastic employees, performance management, training and development
• Ensure effective communication with leadership, clients, sales, corporate operations, as well as direct reports and all departmental staff
• Conduct departmental meetings and ensure appropriate departmental communication
• Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action
• Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department(s) for the laboratory testing
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
• 5 years or more of experience as a technologist in a clinical diagnostics laboratory
• 5 years or more of supervisory experience managing several direct reports
• Florida Technologist Supervisor License

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP Histology certification
• 5 or more years of experience managing a team of supervisors, managers or other people leaders

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
• Ability to solve problems and provide solutions under minimal supervision
• Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
• Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the clinical laboratory testing for the Histology and Cytology Department.

Additionally, the Laboratory Manager will create, implement, and manage the policies, procedures and practices for optimal performance of the clinical diagnostics laboratory.
