Job summary

Novartis US, through Magnit Global, seeks a Lab IT Services Engineer to provide onsite IT support for BR Laboratories in San Diego. You will onboard computing gear, coordinate lab instrument integration, and collaborate with scientists to define informatics needs. A 18‑month contract, fully onsite in San Diego, with schedule Mon–Fri 8–5 or 8:30–5:30, and a W‑2 pay rate.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on troubleshooting and Windows support (Win10/Win11).
• Experience in Biotech or Biopharma relating to instruments, software and systems.
• Experience with lab instruments (plate readers, mass specs, liquid handlers, sequencers, imaging).
• Familiar with endpoint management software (Altiris, SimpleHelp).
• Familiarity with Imprivata or similar SSO platforms.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Proficient in scripting and quick adaptation to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Onboard PCs/workstations to requested specs and configure OS per standards.
• Use defined tools to minimize impact on scientists’ daily work.
• Manage lab equipment integration and ensure compliant processes.
• Interact with scientists to understand informatics needs.
• Provide business analysis for planning and delivery of lab IT projects.
• Create, track and close service tickets with professional service.
• Ensure adherence to RX quality standards.

Lab IT Services Engineer

Initial reporting location: Building E, 10675 John Jay Hopkins Drive, San Diego, CA

Future reporting location: In a couple of months, workers will move to the new building at: 3020 Callan Road, San Diego, CA 92121

The Lab Technology/Lab IT Services department in San Diego, California delivers onsite excellence in technology and services to BR Laboratories in order to enable a secure, frictionless, digital user experience.

Major Accountabilities & Key Activities

• Onboard new PCs and workstations to requested specifications, integrate the hardware, install and configure the operating software and ensure visibility to the network in accordance with the Novartis Standards and security guidelines.
• Utilize defined tools and templates and ensure correct methodology is used to reduce the impact on scientist's daily work.
• Manage and execute lab equipment integration and ensure compliant processes are applied to satisfy business and Novartis needs.
• Work directly with the scientists to understand their lab processes, data flow, infrastructure and research data in order to identify their informatics needs.
• Provide business analysis and technical expertise for the planning and definition of requirements, implementation and delivery phases of lab related IT projects.
• Create, track and close service tickets while delivering an excellent customer service experience with professionalism and confidence.
• Accountable to ensure adherence to quality standards as defined by Research Informatics (RX) organization.

Experience

• Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of progressive experience with hands on troubleshooting and support for Windows (Win10/Win11/Win11IoT) systems
• Experience in Biotech or Biopharma as it relates to scientific instrumentation/vendors, software applications and systems
• Experience working with scientific instruments, plate readers, mass specs, liquid handlers, gene sequencers, purification systems, imaging instruments (In‑Cells, Microscopes, Bia‑Core etc..)
• Experience working with endpoint management software such as Altiris and Simple Help.
• Familiarity with Imprivata or other Single Sign-On platforms.
• Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation with ability to respond to changing needs and priorities quickly and efficiently
• Exceptional Troubleshooting Skills And Experience Supporting Nonstandard Software
• Scripting experience
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to peers and customers
• Strong English communication skills

Shift timings : Mon‑Fri 8-5 or 8:30am - 5:30pm

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Rate: $36.42 - $43.57/Hour W-2 Only (based on Education/Experience)
• Contract: 18-month
