Job summary

Albany Med Health System is hiring a Laboratory Information Technician (LIT) for day shifts. The role handles specimen receipt, verification of patient identifiers and written requests, and data entry into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring accuracy and HIPAA compliance.

The LIT supports tests routing, reports, and billing, communicates with nursing staff and physicians, and helps maintain a clean, organized work area while preserving patient confidentiality in a highly computerized lab

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree with a science or computer background preferred.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and interpret safety procedures/documents.
• Good written and verbal communication with healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens and verifies patient identification and request details.
• Transcribes results, orders tests, and generates related documentation in LIS.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and keeps the work area organized.
• Communicates with nursing staff, physicians and hospital departments.
• Assists in stocking supplies and packaging specimens per guidelines.
