Job summary

EMD Serono, Inc. is seeking a Principal Scientist / Lab Head, In Vivo Pharmacology in Billerica, MA. You will lead in vivo studies across immunology and neuroscience, establish disease models, and drive translational pharmacology strategies.

You will manage a team, collaborate with biology, DMPK, biomarkers, translational medicine, and pathology, and ensure studies meet quality standards and timelines.

Qualifications

• PhD (or MSc) with substantial drug discovery experience in pharma/biotech.
• Proven lead on an in vivo pharmacology workstream.
• Experience with multiple therapeutic modalities (small molecules, biologics, etc.).
• Strong data integrity, experimental design, and animal research practices.
• Experience managing CRO partnerships and external collaborations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, execution, and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology studies in immunology and neuroscience.
• Develop disease models and translational strategies with defined validation milestones.
• Provide scientific recommendations on model selection, study design, and program progression.
• Manage a team of scientists and mentor junior staff.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across biology, DMPK, biomarkers, and translational medicine.
