Job summary

Norsk Hydro in Troy, Michigan seeks a Lab Engineer to safeguard the quality of aluminum extruded products. The role centers on conducting BQA and metallurgical analysis, performing chemical and material qualification testing, and supporting root-cause analyses for quality claims.

You will operate tensile testers, OES, SEM, and other lab equipment, document results, and maintain calibration. Travel for plant support may be required; a safety-focused, detail-oriented individual will thrive.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Associate's degree or Science/Technical School Degree.
• Previous hands on work experience in a Testing Lab for materials analysis.
• Good mechanical aptitude to safely and efficiently operate equipment (preferred).
• Aluminum or Steel manufacturing experience (preferred).
• Experience with SEM/EDS, Keyence, and other metallurgical analysis tools (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and perform rigorous testing and metallurgical analysis on aluminum products and report results.
• Operate lab equipment safely: tensile testers, micrometers, calipers, OES, SEM, Keyence, age ovens, hardness testers.
• Record results, maintain logs, and input data into relevant systems.
• Maintain and calibrate lab instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
• Adhere to safety protocols, maintain clean workspace, and manage hazardous waste.
• Perform monthly Billet Quality Assessment (BQA) reporting for regional cast houses.
