Lab/Dispensary for Dog Rescue - Volunteer (Unpaid)

Location: Spokane, WA. Remote with on-site duties.

Hours: 5 hours/week.

Compensation: Volunteer (unpaid).

Role Mission:

Performs laboratory screening of blood, fecal, or urine samples to determine treatment needed for rescued dogs.

Job Summary:

Seeking a skilled Veterinary Laboratory Technician or a candidate eager to learn and interested in veterinary medicine. Responsible for diagnostic tests, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and distributing medications locally in Spokane or North Idaho.

We save pregnant dogs and puppies in high-kill shelters in the South, transporting them to the Pacific Northwest for adoption. We are 100% foster-based, relying on volunteers and fosters, with no kennel or physical location.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Sample collection and testing: blood, urine, fecal, tissue samples; perform hematology, urinalysis, parasitology, microbiology.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Record keeping and communication of test results.
  • Monitor health of rescued dogs, identify abnormalities, and flag urgent cases.
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies.
  • Follow biosafety protocols, maintain a sterile environment, and dispose of biohazard waste properly.

Position is part-time, not applicable for seniority level, within the research, analyst, and IT industry, in a non-profit organization.
