Job summary

Galen Medical Group in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a Lab Courier to transport laboratory specimens, mail, and supplies between locations and the corporate office. The role emphasizes timely, courteous delivery and strict adherence to safety, HIPAA, and CLIA standards.

The ideal candidate has strong time management, organizational skills, and a clear driving record. Prior courier experience is preferred and typical shift is Monday through Friday, 10AM to 6PM, with a company vehicle provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License.
• Must have a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Transport laboratory specimens, mail, supplies, medications, and interoffice correspondence between Galen Medical Group locations and laboratories.
• Travel to designated pickup and delivery locations using a company vehicle.
• Complete pickups/deliveries on schedule and obtain required signatures upon medication delivery.
• Ensure biologics are delivered to the Corporate Lab in a timely manner each day.
• Maintain mileage and vehicle usage logs and perform basic vehicle checks.
• Adhere to safety, transportation, and regulatory requirements for specimen handling.

Summary/Objective

The Courier is responsible for the timely, courteous, and efficient transportation of laboratory specimens, mail, supplies, medications, and interoffice correspondence between Galen Medical Group locations, the Corporate Office, laboratories, and other designated sites. This position plays a critical role in supporting patient care by ensuring the secure and timely delivery of laboratory specimens, biologics, and medical supplies.

Essential Functions

• Travel to designated pickup and delivery locations using a company vehicle while following established routes and schedules.
• Perform special deliveries and pickups as directed.
• Ensure that all pick-ups and deliveries are completed on schedule due to critical components of handling lab specimens and blood.
• Obtain required signatures upon medication delivery.
• Ensures biologics are delivered to the Corporate Lab in a timely and efficient manner daily.
• Maintain accurate mileage and vehicle usage logs.
• Monitor company vehicle conditions, including fuel level (replenish as needed), fluid checks, and take vehicle for routine maintenance and service as needed.
• Adhere to all applicable safety, transportation, and regulatory requirements regarding specimen handling and transportation.
• Maintain a safe driving record and operate company vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and Galen Medical Group policies and procedures.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

• Make recommendations for any improvements in operation of the delivery system.
• Assist other personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits.
• Function as relief for other personnel in the office as appropriate and to facilitate co- workers’ absence in the office.
• Demonstrate responsible and cost-effective use of company supplies, equipment, and resources.
• Maintain strictest confidentiality of all company records, including verbal and written records.
• Other duties as assigned by the Lab Director.
