Job summary

Clean Harbors Sawyer, ND Landfill seeks a Lab Chemist Intern to join a safety-focused team for Summer 2027. This in-person internship provides hands-on experience supporting real projects in environmental, energy, and industrial services. Start May 17 or May 24, running through August.

Interns will work with experienced professionals, gain exposure to the industry, and develop practical skills for academic and early career goals, with opportunities across North America and within our field teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, or related field at accredited college or university.
• Experience in a laboratory setting is required or preferred.
• Knowledge of wastewater, TOC, ICP instrumentation is a plus.
• Strong interest in environmental services industry.
• Ability to document, record, and analyze data and information.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or other relevant tools.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist with health and safety prioritization and comply with safe work practices.
• Learn analysis of metals including mercury.
• Learn wet chemistry testing (chlorine and fluoride analysis).
• Learn analysis of facility samples and instrumentation (GC, IC, ICP).
• Shadow supervisors and technicians while gaining hands-on experience.
• Assist with waste management, document control, data analysis, and accuracy checks.
• Maintain a safe work environment compliant with OSHA regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
