Base pay range

$60.00/hr - $75.00/hr

THE POSITION:

We’re seeking a skilled Lab Automation Engineer (contractor) to support the development and optimization of high-throughput automated workflows in a state-of-the-art laboratory. This individual will collaborate closely with scientists and engineers to design, execute, and troubleshoot complex automation protocols used in the multi-omics analysis of cancer and other complex diseases.

This is a 3–6 month contract role with a high likelihood of extension or potential conversion. The role requires onsite in San Mateo, CA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, validate, and maintain protocols on liquid handling automation platforms (Tecan, Hamilton, Agilent).
  • Troubleshoot technical issues on automation systems and ensure consistent performance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including scientists, software engineers, and clinical researchers.
  • Assist in planning and analyzing experiments supporting the development of laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) and in vitro diagnostics (IVDs).
  • Write and maintain SOPs, protocols, and technical documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and performance qualifications on automation platforms.
  • Support integration of automation platforms with LIMS and data capture systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in lab automation engineering within a biotech or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting liquid handling platforms such as Tecan, Hamilton, or Agilent.
  • Experience in regulated environments, preferably with exposure to proteomics and immunoassays.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills; able to execute against timelines.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional, fast-paced team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
