Position:Lab Associate – Material Handler 2nd Shift
Location:Engineering Laboratory
Reports to:Technical Lead
Scope:
Working in an Engineering Research and Development Laboratory, performing all functions necessary to maintain raw and processed material inventory levels. This includes proper storage of incoming material and recycling of unwanted material. As required, assist the technical staff.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform inventory control of lab raw materials, including handling boxes (incoming and outgoing) and maintaining records in the digital database daily. Coordinate with logistics for offsite storage as needed.
- Organize pipe stock inventory and control minimum stocking levels via the inventory system.
- Recycle unwanted materials.
- Use lab’s material handling equipment to move, inventory, store, and maintain all incoming and outgoing materials daily.
- Maintain all material handling equipment, including routine cleaning of forklifts and other lab equipment.
- Log and estimate hours using Liquid Planner (LP) and use it as the primary communication tool.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and professional work area in accordance with Lean initiatives.
- Follow all safety requirements and procedures.
Additional responsibilities as needed to ensure workflow continuity:
- Prepare pipe for assembly using equipment such as plasma cutters, saws, drill presses, and belt sanders.
- Set up and operate Victaulic grooving tools; groove pipe as required; clean and maintain tools.
- Prepare product samples, including painting and assembly, as needed.
- Maintain records and logs.
- Follow department policies on electronic data security and confidentiality, including professional communication via email, as outlined in EOG-26.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical degree preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and high organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer use and inventory software.
- Ability to assist with all laboratory functions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Preferred but not required: proficiency in blueprint reading, shop math, and operation of measurement instruments like calipers and tapes.
