The Lab Assistant Trainee position is on-site at the Lemont Refinery. Responsibilities include analyzing petrochemical feedstocks, intermediates, and finished products in a laboratory setting. Tasks involve collecting, distributing, and disposing of samples, recording test results, maintaining laboratory records, and ensuring a safe and clean work environment. Candidates must demonstrate competency in relevant laboratory test methods.

• Preference for candidates with chemical or petroleum refining experience.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a truck.
• Ability to climb, work outdoors, wear respirator equipment, and work rotating shifts in a 24-hour operation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer skills.
• Eligibility for Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).

TWIC eligibility requires compliance with the Maritime Transportation Security Act, which mandates unescorted access to regulated facilities. For more information and to check eligibility, visit the Transportation Security Administration's website.

Primary duties include:

1. Driving throughout the plant to collect samples and deliver supplies.
2. Performing analysis on plant samples, including flash point, color, pour point, and others.
3. Properly disposing of unused samples.
4. Communicating with management and technical staff regarding sample status, requests, and quality issues.
5. Working independently most of the time.
6. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment and assisting in lab maintenance.
