Overview

As a temporary Laboratory Assistant at IDEXX, you will assist with tasks vital to the running of our network of Reference Labs. We receive thousands of clinical samples every day from Veterinary Clinics, and we run tests on those samples to help veterinarians identify what might be wrong with a pet. You will help to sort, tag, and prepare veterinary samples for testing. Every sample you help to move along quickly and accurately brings us closer to providing the right treatment plan for the pet.

In This Role

• Work in the Sample Management / Specimen Accessioning Department where samples first arrive.
• Unbag, sort, tag, or move clinical samples within the laboratory.
• Restock supplies, such as chemicals or slide trays.
• Load analyzers with slides of samples.
• Assist with inventory counts and other tasks as needed.

Pay & Schedule

• Hourly rate: $23.25/hr (includes shift differential)
• Temporary position, 40 hours per week
• Two available night shifts (varying schedule):
• Tues - Sat 12:30 am – 9:00 am with rotating Sun
• Tues - Sat 2:30 am – 11:00 am with rotating Sun
• Shifts and hours may vary slightly based on business needs
• Reliable attendance is essential

What You'll Need to Succeed

• Willing to work 40 hours/week on the night shift
• Reliable with good attendance
• Data entry skills are a plus
• Willingness to work with veterinary samples (blood, urine, fecal, biopsies)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment; may sit or stand for long periods
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, SOPs, MSDSs, operating instructions, and procedures
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Strong initiative and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• High level of customer service
• Physical ability to work in a lab environment (standing/sitting for long periods, use of hands, occasional climbing, lifting up to 25 lb, vision requirements)
• Laboratory exposure to biohazards, agents that may cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals
