Summary

Corewell Health, a not-for-profit health system with over 60,000 team members, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Assistant to perform complex specimen processing, assist in specialized procedures, and potentially lead sections within the laboratory. The role involves communication with healthcare personnel, training staff, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  1. Process specimens, including staining, inoculating, and handling specimens according to lab protocols.
  2. Assist in anatomic pathology procedures and bedside testing.
  3. Communicate effectively with healthcare personnel regarding reports and specimen requests.
  4. Train and supervise staff, act as a section lead, and participate in quality and safety initiatives.
  5. Perform equipment maintenance and quality control duties as required.
  6. Support training of new hires and participate in meetings and committees.
  7. Ensure cost-effective use of supplies and resources.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s/associate degree or lab assistant training preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • MLA ASCP certification after 1 year of experience is recommended.
  • Computer skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and good communication skills are essential.
