Job Summary

Under limited supervision and according to established procedures, performs laboratory support procedures including specimen collection (phlebotomy), order entry, processing, point of care testing, and transport of laboratory specimens and materials. Performs blood sample collection at least 25% of scheduled hours. Interacts professionally and courteously with patients, laboratory staff, and caregivers.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares patient specimens for testing, focusing on preanalytic and post-analytic processes.
• Enters patient demographic and test order information into laboratory information systems accurately and promptly, maintaining confidentiality.
• Performs blood collection or phlebotomy, demonstrating competency, productivity, and compassion for all patients, for at least 25% of scheduled hours.
• Adheres to HFHS Standards of Excellence, supporting a culture of exceptional customer service.
• Reviews and verifies laboratory request forms for completeness, resolving discrepancies, and handling specimens with care to ensure sample integrity.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and provide excellent customer service.
• Minimum of six months experience in phlebotomy; new employees must pass competency evaluations.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation for off-site assignments.
• Hospital or clinic laboratory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
