Position Overview

Under limited supervision, performs laboratory support procedures including specimen collection (phlebotomy), order entry, processing, point of care testing, and transport of laboratory specimens. Blood sample collection constitutes at least 25% of scheduled hours. Interacts courteously and professionally with patients, laboratory staff, and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare patient specimens for testing, focusing on preanalytic and post-analytic processes.
• Enter patient demographic and test order information into lab systems accurately and timely, maintaining confidentiality.
• Perform blood sample collection or phlebotomy, demonstrating competency, productivity, and compassion.
• Adhere to HFHS Standards of Excellence, providing exceptional customer service.
• Review and resolve discrepancies in laboratory request forms, handle specimens carefully to maintain sample integrity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, with excellent customer service skills.
• Minimum six months of phlebotomy experience; new employees must pass competency evaluations.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation for off-site assignments.
• Hospital or clinic laboratory experience preferred.
• Medical terminology familiarity is a plus.
