Job summary

University of California - San Diego Medical Centers in La Jolla seeks a Lab Assistant to support data collection for psychedelics and mindfulness research, assisting with psychophysical, brain imaging, and pharmacologic studies.

You will help with routine lab operations, IRB adherence, data entry, and recruitment of participants, with occasional evenings and weekends and exposure to hazardous materials. Hybrid schedule includes onsite in La Jolla and remote work as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or a GED and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of psychology, neuroscience, human biology, and pre-medicine.
• Knowledge of safe human testing procedures (CITI training; experience with IRB).
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
• Knowledge of personal computer programs including word processing, basic computer coding, SPSS, Word, Excel, and Unix.
• Ability to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.
• Must be able to work effectively with human volunteers and patients.
• Familiarity with specimen processing, labeling, centrifugation, and sample storage according to biosafety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection, entry, or database management in REDCap or similar systems.
• Assist with routine laboratory operations and data collection in psychophysical, brain imaging, and pharmacologic studies.
• Adhere to IRB protocols and ensure accurate data collection.
• Assist with participant recruitment, prescreening, and scheduling.
• Support with behavioral interventions and data quality control.
