Position Responsibilities:
  • Receive, process, and verify identification of sample containers and requisitions including checking-in specimens from transportation courier.
  • Centrifuge and pour off specimens for departments and send-outs.
  • Create packing lists and log package samples for send-out to reference laboratories, assure special send-outs via FedEx, UPS, and US mail are processed correctly.
  • Document pertinent information pertaining to patient testing in LIS system and on reference lab requisitions and packing lists.
Daily Tasks:
  • Receive, process, and verify identification of sample containers and requisitions.
  • Check-in specimens from transportation courier.
  • Centrifuge and pour off specimens for departments and send-outs.
  • Create packing lists and log package samples for send-out to reference laboratories, assure special send-outs via FedEx, UPS, and US mail are processed correctly.
  • Clean work area.
  • Call offices for any missing information on specimens or requisitions.
  • Order and receive specimens collected from other hospital departments and home health agencies.
  • Monitor pneumatic tube system.
  • Maintain confidentiality while using Vocera.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Wear PPE and follow OSHA regulations while handling specimens.
  • Document pertinent information pertaining to patient testing in LIS system and on reference lab requisitions and packing lists.
Requirements:
  • Minimum requirement, high school diploma or GED.
  • Work requires a high school level of knowledge and the ability to understand laboratory tests offered and the types of specimens required for these tests.
  • Maintains compliance with safety equipment following OSHA regulations.
