Job summary

LewisGale Hospital Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia, is seeking a Lab Assistant PRN to join our hospital’s laboratory team. You will perform specimen collection and processing, including venipunctures, while upholding patient confidentiality and quality standards.

The role emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and on-call availability, with a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional certification and growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy experience/training
• Preferred ASCP/ASPT certified

Responsibilities

• Adheres to all established policies and procedures in the collection and/or processing of specimens.
• Demonstrates efficiency and proficiency in the collection, handling, and processing of specimens. Able to perform a minimum of 40 venipunctures per eight hour shift.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks associated with processing and/or phlebotomy.
• Shares daily workload in the phlebotomy/processing section including outpatient areas and reception/greeting tasks.
• Prioritizes work to assure completion within the assigned shift and according to required TAT.
• Exhibits an understanding of how the processing/phlebotomy areas contribute to the overall functioning of the laboratory.
• Maintains good communication with team leaders, coworkers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality.
• Exhibits excellent customer relations in dealings with patients, visitors, physicians, hospital staff and coworkers.
• Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.
• Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan. Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training.
• Initiates and documents patient teaching, including family and /or significant others. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
• Accepts on call responsibilities as needed and/or necessary.
