Job summary

Heart Hospital of Austin is seeking a Laboratory Assistant who will be responsible for performing various tasks in the laboratory, including venipuncture, specimen collection, and processing. You will ensure positive patient identification and proper specimen handling, while also assisting in microbiology and histology procedures.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of phlebotomy experience and a high school diploma or GED. Formal phlebotomy training is preferred. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and retirement resources, is offered.

• 1 year of experience performing hospital phlebotomy.
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Preferred formal phlebotomy training from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collection.
• Collect, process, and transport specimens.
• Identify proper tubes, containers, and storage temperature for tests.
• Ensure positive identification of patients and samples.
• Maintain neat and stocked collection trays.
• Assist in microbiology and histology procedures.
• Answer phones and relay messages.
• Distribute reports and maintain standing orders.
