Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist - Outpatient - Sheffield Lab Services

Join our team as a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist - Outpatient - Sheffield Lab Services at Mercy Health.

Position Details:

  • Part Time - 24 hours weekly
  • Shift: Days/Afternoons (8am-4:30pm)
  • No weekends or holidays

Job Summary:

The Lab Assistant performs phlebotomy and specimen collection, utilizing Lab Information System (LIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS) for various functions including patient registration, order entry, and report generation. Responsibilities include processing specimens, ensuring accurate registration, and providing basic customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform specimen collection procedures
  • Process and send out specimens and body fluids
  • Enter orders and perform accessioning, centrifuging, and aliquoting of samples
  • Generate reports and register patients
  • Maintain inventory and supplies
  • Assist in microbiology culture setup and gram stain preparation as needed
  • Phlebotomy duties as required

Qualifications:

  • High School/GED (required)
  • Phlebotomy Certification (preferred)
  • 1 year phlebotomy experience (preferred)
  • Basic phlebotomy training (preferred)
  • Skills include active listening, communication, problem-solving, customer service, organization, and basic computer skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Potential exposure to high stress, noise, bright lights, and biological hazards
  • Use of personal protective equipment required
  • Intermittent exposure to fumes, odors, and infectious materials

Patient Population Served:

  • Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics
