Job summary

Trinity Health's MercyOne Lab is seeking a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments in collection, processing, analysis and reporting of tests for patient diagnosis. The role emphasizes accurate specimen handling, data entry, and adherence to safety standards within a large health system.

You will perform venipunctures and specimens handling, support LIS data entry, and collaborate across departments to maintain timely results and high quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as appropriate and ensures proper specimen collection.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions from internal and external customers and manages add-on orders.
• Identifies patients and specimens using two identifiers and labels containers to ensure correct ID.
• Registers and logs specimens in LIS, evaluates adequacy, and scans documentation into the record.
• Performs specimen processing and documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
