Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Virginia Beach is seeking a Part-Time Lab Tech (Phlebotomist) to support our cancer care team. The role involves collecting specimens, performing in-house chemistry, hematology, and immunology testing, and maintaining accurate lab records.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and phlebotomy experience, is able to travel between sites as needed, and thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment with strict safety and quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel between sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens from patients and performs analysis in chemistry, hematology, and immunology as directed.
  • Assists with testing procedures.
  • Maintains documentation including test report logs, QC logs, equipment records, and checklists.
  • Sends specimens to reference labs for tests not performed in-house and processes orders.
  • Updates and files daily lab paperwork and maintenance logs.
  • Operates laboratory equipment and performs instrument maintenance as indicated.

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunities for a Part-Time Lab Tech (Phlebotomist) to support our office located in Virginia Beach.

Employment Type: Full-Time, In-Person

Benefits: M/D/V, Life Ins., 401(k)

Compensation Range: $20.85/hr - $25.25/hr

Responsibilities
  • Collects viable and appropriate specimens from patients as ordered and performs specimen analysis of all chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens as directed.
  • Assists with testing procedures.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation including test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
  • Sends specimens to reference labs for any testing not performed in-house. Processes incoming orders for lab testing.
  • Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed and performs appropriate instrument maintenance as indicated.

Requires corrected vision, color perception and hearing to normal range. Requires legible handwriting.
