Description

Position Summary: The LAB Assistant is trained to perform processing of blood and other body fluids, sendouts, and other tests as required. Responsibilities include obtaining blood samples from patients, ensuring proper labeling and collection procedures, and becoming competent in venipunctures and skin punctures. May also register and interview patients, verifying demographic and financial information, and medical necessity for Medicare patients.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Skills: Ability to register patients, obtain specimens, operate laboratory equipment, and communicate effectively in English. Capable of using computer systems.
• Experience: Relevant experience preferred.

Supervision:

• Responsible to: Laboratory Manager, Drawsite Manager, Supervisor

Environment & Physical Requirements

Work involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious materials, hazardous substances, and requires working in various conditions including well-lit areas, with potential exposure to odors, fumes, noise, and temperature fluctuations. Physical demands include standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills, often under time pressure.
