Description:
Supports CLIA-Moderately Complex Testing Laboratory at Ankeny Clinic Lab. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy and laboratory tests such as CBC, urinalysis, and Flu/COVID testing, among others. Hours are between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (Monday to Friday).
- Accurately identifies patients prior to phlebotomy collection of specimens using two patient identifiers as established by laboratory policy.
- May perform patient registration related to requested laboratory testing.
- Independently performs analysis of biological specimens as trained and per laboratory operating procedures.
- Monitors the collection, transportation, storage, identification and processing of laboratory specimens to ensure specimen integrity prior to testing.
- Responsible for operation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
- Recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes, and corrects problems according to laboratory policies.
- Performs quality control per established frequency, monitors results, and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracy and precision.
- Assists with new instrument or procedure implementation and training.
- Supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
- Works independently, organizing work to meet deadlines and record-keeping requirements.
- Follows safe work practices by observing safety and infection control policies and procedures, and reports hazards to management.
- Maintains supply inventories.
- Participates in training new employees.
- Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related software.
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
General Requirements:
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory experience preferred.
- Computer skills required.
- Reference Lab Only: Valid Iowa driver’s license required. Must meet MercyOne’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and be at least 18 years old.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
