Job Summary:
To perform venipuncture and skin puncture, along with pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies, procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable laws.
- Selects appropriate phlebotomy techniques based on the patient's age and physical condition.
- Assesses the quality of blood samples considering the patient's age, physical maturation, and the test to be performed.
- Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
- Properly labels samples and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
- Conducts pre-analytical procedures such as bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining of specimens.
- Monitors and maintains inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
- Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with patients, the public, and staff.
- Performs additional duties, including patient check-in, collecting revenue, accessioning test orders, and providing patient preparation instructions.
- Handles difficult patients professionally.
- Displays professionalism consistently in attitude and appearance.
- Follows directives from supervisors, leads, and senior staff.
- Performs other activities and responsibilities as assigned.
