Job description

Job Summary:

To perform venipuncture and skin puncture, along with pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies, procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable laws.
  2. Selects appropriate phlebotomy techniques based on the patient's age and physical condition.
  3. Assesses the quality of blood samples considering the patient's age, physical maturation, and the test to be performed.
  4. Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
  5. Properly labels samples and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
  6. Conducts pre-analytical procedures such as bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining of specimens.
  7. Monitors and maintains inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
  8. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with patients, the public, and staff.
  9. Performs additional duties, including patient check-in, collecting revenue, accessioning test orders, and providing patient preparation instructions.
  10. Handles difficult patients professionally.
  11. Displays professionalism consistently in attitude and appearance.
  12. Follows directives from supervisors, leads, and senior staff.
  13. Performs other activities and responsibilities as assigned.
