Job Summary:
To perform venipuncture and skin puncture, and handle pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws.
- Selects appropriate phlebotomy techniques based on the patient's age and physical maturity.
- Assesses the quality of blood samples considering the patient's age, physical maturity, and the test requirements.
- Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
- Properly labels samples and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
- Handles pre-analytical testing procedures such as bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological specimens.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
- Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients, and staff.
- Performs additional duties including patient check-in, collecting revenue, accessioning test orders, and providing patient preparation instructions.
- Handles difficult patients professionally.
- Displays professionalism in attitude and appearance at all times.
- Follows directives from supervisors, leads, and seniors.
- Performs other activities and responsibilities as directed.
