Job Summary:

To perform venipuncture and skin puncture, and handle pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws.
2. Selects appropriate phlebotomy techniques based on the patient's age and physical maturity.
3. Assesses the quality of blood samples considering the patient's age, physical maturity, and the test requirements.
4. Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
5. Properly labels samples and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
6. Handles pre-analytical testing procedures such as bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological specimens.
7. Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
8. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients, and staff.
9. Performs additional duties including patient check-in, collecting revenue, accessioning test orders, and providing patient preparation instructions.
10. Handles difficult patients professionally.
11. Displays professionalism in attitude and appearance at all times.
12. Follows directives from supervisors, leads, and seniors.
13. Performs other activities and responsibilities as directed.
