Job summary

Springfield Clinic is hiring a Laboratory Assistant 2 - Float to perform waived testing (rapid strep, flu, urine dips), collect and process specimens, and enter test data under supervision. You will handle EKG/POC testing and be the entry point for specimens entering the lab, ensuring proper labeling and timely distribution.

The role requires a high school diploma and preferred phlebotomy/medical assistant experience; after three months you should be capable of full duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in phlebotomy, medical assistant, or related program preferred.
• After three months of employment you should be capable of performing as a lab assistant.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens using age appropriate skills.
• Identify the patient, select venipuncture equipment based on age, and label specimens per policy.
• Communicate with the patient and family as appropriate for age and maintains patient safety.
• Perform proper collection of specimens including patient prep, technique, and transport; use safety equipment properly.
• Label, process, and distribute specimens per established procedures.
• Prioritize workload to meet turnaround time expectations and deliver specimens to proper departments.
• Perform waived laboratory tests according to SOPs.
• Verify self-collected specimens meet requirements and proper labeling when returned by patient.
• Performs PAS duties as needed.
• Operate and maintain equipment per SOPs to meet turnaround times.
• Display troubleshooting and problem resolution for instrumentation issues.
• Complies with quality control procedures and preventative maintenance; meet deadlines and stay current on competency.
• Identifies situations affecting quality patient care and initiates resolution.
• Monitors reagent and supply use to maintain inventory and support cost efficiency.
• Participates in training of new employees.
• Maintains positive attitude and professional behavior with patients and staff.
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and Springfield Clinic policies.
