The IU Health laboratories offer some of Indiana's most comprehensive services, operating 24/7 and performing more than 19 million tests annually. Besides serving IU Health, they also provide testing services to hospitals and physicians nationwide.

SHIFT: PRN - rotating between first and second shifts, every third weekend, and holidays.

The Laboratory Assistant I, Specimen Processor, performs general lab services including specimen receipt, order entry, blood component preparation, waived testing, and pre-analytic specimen processing. They also handle clerical tasks such as entering orders, validating specimens, answering calls, and managing faxes. The ideal candidate pays close attention to detail, possesses strong organizational skills, and has basic computer proficiency.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program; laboratory experience or coursework in biological, chemical, or related sciences preferred.
  • May require a valid Indiana driver’s license and a clean driving record over the past three years.
  • Understanding of Indiana traffic laws is preferred.
  • Proven computer skills required.
  • Telephone communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

May serve on committees or projects contributing to departmental goals, with details to be added by consultants.
