Job summary

The Lab Assistant I position at Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas supports the provider care team by handling essential laboratory duties including specimen collection, processing, reporting, and scheduling.

Responsibilities include venipuncture and capillary collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, specimen transport, and ensuring accurate patient identification and HIPAA-compliant handling of data.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• MOAB Certification within 1 year of hire.
• Phlebotomy and/or lab experience preferred.
• Must successfully pass annual competency.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen collection using venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Prepare patients for laboratory tests and ensure accurate identification and labeling.
• Process, handle, store, and transport specimens in compliance with requirements.
• Perform point-of-care and waived testing with required quality control.
• Conduct basic instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Perform EKGs according to established protocols.
• Enter laboratory orders and results, monitor systems for timely results.
• Perform NON-DOT urine drug screenings with chain of custody.
• Support clinic operations by maintaining patient flow, managing inventory, and assisting with health fairs.
