Description

Sagis Diagnostics is an entirely physician-led sub-specialty pathology group supported by a CAP-accredited histology lab located in the heart of Houston, Texas. Led by a team of board-certified pathologists, our lab is at the forefront of diagnostic science. We offer the highest quality services to hospitals and surgery centers as well as physician practices.

SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES

The position of Lab-Assistant – Pathology Services encompasses technical, clerical, and client service-related duties. The ideal candidate possesses strong problem-solving abilities in addition to solid interpersonal skills. Depending on education and experience, the position may include more complex technical tasks, such as grossing and staining pathological specimens.

Duties to include but are not limited to:

· Receive and clock in specimens from couriers; verifies that specimens recorded on courier logs are received

· Prioritize and sort specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing

· Accessioning and data entry of test requisitions into lab information system.

· Scanning and uploading reports into hospital electronic medical records system

· Verification and submission of billing information and clinical history documentation.

· Prepare cassettes and slides, discard tissue per established policy

· Perform both daily and weekly maintenance in the accessioning area and grossing room

· Answer departmental phone calls and assist clients as needed

· Compile data for quality assurance monitoring

· Assist staff pathologist with reference lab requests

· Troubleshoot client related issues such as delays in testing, test discrepancies, and/or missing information.

· Assists pathologist with frozen sections and cytology adequacy checks

· Aids in preparation of documents for tumor boards presentation

· Addresses pathology-related requests from hospital staff including surgeons and other physicians

· Attend safety and compliance meetings as required

· Pick up specimens from client offices near the hospital

· Manages supply inventory, files reports and slides

· Follow laboratory protocols

· Complete safety and compliance training as required

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field required
  • 1-3 years of directly related experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to take and follow direction and to know who the resources are for their direction.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high-stress, deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work in a standing position at times.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work late shifts and weekends when necessary.
  • Familiarity with and skill in the operation of computers.
  • Ability to interact well with people and pleasant telephone manners.
  • Ability to work well under direction of the Laboratory Director and others in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong ethics and commitment to excellence.
  • Office experience, preferably in a medical or other health care setting.
