Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• One year experience as a hospital phlebotomist or graduate from phlebotomy school.
• Louisiana State License as a Laboratory Assistant.
• National Certification preferred.
• Basic computer skills; phlebotomy skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood collection procedures using skin capillary puncture and venipuncture.
• Performs specimen collections that require a state license.
• Ensures proper patient identification using two unique identifiers.
• Performs specialized collection procedures i.e. crossmatch blood cultures glucose tolerance urine drug screen collection PKUT4 therapeutic phlebotomy.
• Keeps blood drawing trays and equipment clean and well organized.
• Recognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory system.
• Utilizes proper hand washing and infection control during venipunctures and skin puncture.
• Utilizes laboratory computer system collection lists and pending logs.

Collect laboratory specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture to aid in the assessment of a patients medical condition

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Pathology

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
