Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a General Lab Phlebotomist to collect clinical samples for testing, using skin puncture and venipuncture techniques, urine and specialty collections. Reports to the Assistant Director of Pathology.
The role requires a high school diploma, 2 years of related experience preferred, and strong communication and computer skills. You will work in a fast-paced clinical environment within Lake Charles Memorial Health System.
The General Lab Phlebotomist collects clinical laboratory samples to be tested in the clinical laboratory The General Lab Phlebotomist will collect blood samples through the use of skin puncture and venipuncture techniques urine samples and other specialty collections SUPERVISION Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Pathology
Use and maintain Mobile devices and Spectralink phones according to policyUtilizes departmental communication platformsMeets blood culture contamination rate of 10 if applicable campusarea Utilize blood diversion devicesMeets rejected specimen rate of 2 if applicable campusareaUtilizes proper hand washingAssists clerks with receiving specimens answering the phone and other duties when availableMeets established turnaround times for STAT In AM Timed and routine ordersPractice methods of preventing infection during venipunctureskin punctureUtilizes laboratory computer system collection lists kiosk system and pending logsEnsure proper collection for specimen integrityRecognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory systemKeeps blood drawing trays and equipment clean and well organizedPerforms specialized collection procedures ie crossmatch blood cultures glucose tolerance urine drug screen collection PKUT4 therapeutic phlebotomyEnsures proper patient identification using two unique identifiersPerforms blood collection procedures using skin capillary puncture and venipuncture
High school graduate or equivalent2 years of experience in a like or similar position is preferredFamiliarity with medical terminology preferredAdvanced computer skillsAbility to communicate well with patients family peers and medical personnelAble to read and understand graphs and performance improvement data sheets
