Job summary

Southeast Health is seeking a phlebotomy technician to perform phlebotomy and accessioning across hospital laboratory, outpatient, and off-site services. You will identify patients, label tubes, and prioritize STAT draws while ensuring timely specimen transport for testing.

Under supervision, you may train new employees and student interns, follow safety policies, and help maintain orderly workflow and equipment cleanliness in the phlebotomy areas.

Qualifications

  • High school education preferred.
  • One year of full time phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Certification eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) per procedure.
  • Identifies patients and labels specimen tubes accurately.
  • Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport to lab.
  • Uses LIS for accessioning and records workload statistics.
  • Assists in training new employees and interns under supervision.
  • Follows safety policies and hospital exposure control plans.

Always the right career direction.Job Description SummaryPerforms phlebotomy and accessioning functions and non-technical duties in areas including the hospital laboratory, outpatient and off-site services.Job DescriptionMinimum RequirementsEquivalent of four years of high school education preferred;One year of full time experience preferred;Certification eligible with a National Phlebotomy Association preferred;Proficient in LIS Accessioning and Reference Laboratory Send-outsResponsibilities:Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure;Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes;Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing;Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions;Organizes assigned work and accurately completes work load statistics;Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure an orderly work flow;Under supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at the hospital in the performance of phlebotomy duties;Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures;Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards;Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens;Readily accepts changes in assignment. Performs work level of equal skill and responsibility as needed.
