We are seeking a dedicated Lab Assistant to demonstrate excellent customer service and support laboratory operations at Covenant HealthCare.

Overview
The Lab Assistant performs testing authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director, including specimen collection, handling, processing, and limited laboratory testing under supervision. They ensure proper instrument use, preventative maintenance, and quality control, contributing to accurate and timely results.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide excellent customer service and contribute to patient satisfaction and operational success.
  2. Assist in training new employees under supervision.
  3. Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, scheduling, and data entry in systems like EPIC or CERNER LIS.
  4. Maintain communication with healthcare staff and deliver laboratory reports.
  5. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen testing, quality control, and safety protocols.
  6. Collect specimens via venipuncture or skin puncture, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
  7. Transport specimens accurately and timely, including reference laboratory samples.
  8. Utilize Lifepoint software for ordering, testing, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • College-level coursework in Biology or Chemistry.
  • Knowledge of LIS applications and strong communication skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, handling, and visual tasks; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.; other physical activities as required.
