Job description

The Lab Assistant performs positive patient identification, receives specimens into the lab reception area, inputs specimen information into the laboratory information system, and conducts patient/client registration as necessary. They make determinations for specimen collection containers and volumes based on patient weight and laboratory requirements. The role involves maintaining specimen integrity during transport and processing, communicating specimen issues to caregivers, and providing customer service by greeting visitors, answering phones, transferring calls, faxing results, and assisting with specimen requirements. Additional clerical or clinical duties are performed as required by the area of service. Patients served range from newborns to adolescents. All personnel must adhere to Cook Children's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Clinical Laboratory Compliance Plan, behaving professionally and courteously towards all stakeholders.

Qualifications:

- High School diploma or GED required

- Preferred one (1) year of phlebotomy experience; pediatric experience is a plus

- Specimen processing experience required
