The Parichy lab at University of Virginia is seeking part-time assistants under Federal Work Study. Hours are flexible around class schedules. Open 8/25/26 through 5/14/27 with a pay of $14.60/hr.

Entry level with opportunities to develop professional skills and assist ongoing research using CRISPR, PCR, and cloning methods. Core duties include solution prep, plate pouring, sterilization, and fish care in tropical species, plus inventory management.

Responsibilities

Job description

**Federal work-study students only**

The Parichy lab (parichylab.org) is looking for part time assistants to help with routine tasks in both molecular biology and animal facilities, including solution preparation, plate pouring, sterilization, organization and inventory, and care and feeding of tropical fish (zebrafish and related species) using for developmental genetic and evolutionary studies. Though an entry level position, opportunities are also available for professional skills development and assisting with on-going research projects that include mutant screens, gene perturbation by CRISPR methods, PCR and molecular cloning, and other activities. Hours are flexible around course schedules.

Scheduling

This position is open 8/25/26 through 5/14/27.

Compensation

$14.60/hr.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily an active job supporting tropical fish. The job may require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
