Position Focus
The Aksoy lab at the Yale School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, works with the tsetse fly model system to study arthopod vector-microorganism interactions, with the ultimate goal being the reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases. The prospective employee will work closely with Dr. Serap Aksoy (lab PI), Dr. Brian Weiss (Senior Research Scientist), and post-doctoral scientists.
Position Duties Include (but May Not Be Limited To)
- Maintenance of the tsetse fly colony (feeding and sexing the flies and cleaning all materials related to colony maintenance).
- Assistance of experimental procedures to facilitate laboratory scientific goals.
- Assistance with animal (mouse) procedures.
- Preparation of solutions and supplies, and maintenance of lab and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
- Records data and results. 2. Prepares chemical solutions and media. Orders, stocks and distributes supplies. 3. Maintains work area and cleanliness of laboratory. Washes and sterilizes glassware and equipment. 4. May assist in procedures using animals. May compile data on scientific/laboratory procedures. 5. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.
Required Education And Experience
Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Proven experience working with tsetse flies.

Proven experience handling and working with mice.
Required Skill/Ability 3
Good organizational skills.

The ability to work well in a group setting.
