Job summary

Winona Health is seeking a Lab Assistant (0.9 FTE) to support laboratory services with receptionist, registration, secretarial, and specimen collection duties. Requires phlebotomy training/experience and the ability to provide off-site services as needed.

Shifts vary between 5 am and 9 pm with weekend/holiday rotation every third pay period. The role emphasizes excellent customer service, attention to detail, and multitasking in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of proper specimen collection requirements for patients of all ages.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with Word, Excel, Access or other databases (Cerner/EMR).

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy, venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures.
  • Performs specimen check-in, distribution of blood, urine and culture specimens.
  • Handles clerical duties: answering phones, order entry, results entry, database entry.
  • Provides off-site phlebotomy services at nursing homes and community clinics.

Job description

Lab Assistant
0.9 FTE, 72 Hours per Pay Period
Scheduled shifts between 5 am and 9 pm
Weekend and holiday rotation of every third
*Starting pay between $17.91 and $22.39 based on experience

Position Overview:

The Lab Assistant (LA) provides receptionist, registration, secretarial, and specimen collection duties to support laboratory services. The LA must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to multitask well. Requires previous phlebotomy training and/or experience.

  • Performs phlebotomy, venipuncture , and other specimen collection procedures in compliance with Winona Health policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledgeableofproperspecimencollectionrequirements.Performsphlebotomyfor patients of all ages in compliance with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) standards andestablishedlaboratory policies andprocedures.
  • Performs specimen check-in processes and distribution of blood, urine, and culture specimens received into the lab
  • Providesurinedrugscreencollectionandprocessingservicesaccordingtoestablished policies and procedures.Assistswith processing specimens for referral lab testing.
  • Performs general clerical duties including answering phones, faxing documents, order entry,resultentry,databaseentryforsendingouttests,andmultipleotherclericaltasksasneeded.
  • Providesoff-sitephlebotomyservicestoresidents inareanursinghomesandcommunityhealthscreeningclinicsandotherWinonaHealthapprovedservices.
  • MaybetrainedinthepreparationandprocessingofThinPrepPAPSmears.

Required:

  • Knowledgeable and skilled at proper specimen collection requirements for patients of all ages.
  • Basic computer skills. Word. Excel. Access orotherdatabases. Patient information database (Cerner, EMR, American Data).
