Job summary

Community Hospital of San Bernardino, part of CommonSpirit Health, is seeking a Lab Assistant to support diagnostic testing and patient care in our emergency department and laboratory.

You will collect, prepare, and process specimens (blood, urine, tissue), label and handle them per protocol, maintain equipment, and assist with data entry and record-keeping. A focus on accuracy and learning is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six months as a laboratory phlebotomist.
  • California Certified Phlebotomy through the Department of Public Health required.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, prepare, and process patient specimens for diagnostic tests.
  • Label, centrifuge, and aliquot specimens as needed.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions per established protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies; ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Perform routine lab tasks such as washing glassware and sterilizing instruments.
  • Assist with data entry and record-keeping in compliance with regulations.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
  • Work in the Emergency Room as required.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day, you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • The lab assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • This lab assistant will play a critical role in the Emergency Room schedule
  • Assist with specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, and aliquoting.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions according to established protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Perform routine lab tasks such as washing glassware, sterilizing instruments, and preparing culture media.
  • Assist with data entry and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
  • Will be required to work in the Emergency Room

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of six (6) months as a laboratory phlebotomist is required.
