Job summary

ALK is seeking a Lab Assistant for Port Washington, NY, on the second shift (10:00 am – 6:30 pm; training may begin at 6:30 am). The role involves cleaning, sterilization, and routine GMP tasks in a fast-paced lab environment.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent, be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and read/write English. Experience with hazardous materials and respirators is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Clean/Sterilize glassware and equipment per SOPs.
• Perform prep work for sterilization and maintain log books.
• Load ovens and maintain chart records.
• Execute SAP-related duties and goods movement transactions.
• Assist with media prep and vial wash as needed.
• Cross-train on vial wash and media prep processes.
• Document batch records and ensure conformance with SOPs.

We are currently seeking a Full-TimeLab Assistant to join our team in Port Washington, NY.

The ideal Lab Assistant candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, can manage multitask and be able to have keen attention to detail.

This role is for a second shift of 10:00am to 6:30pm. However, during the training period, this candidate will come in the morning shift starting at 6:30am.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Cleaning/Sterilization of flasks, graduates, syringes, stoppers/droppers, filling set-ups, in addition to filtering rubber detergent used in cleaning of stoppers, routine replacement of tubing, and setting up/repair of new/existing glassware as per related manufacturing SOPs.
• Prep work for sterilization (tape, wrapping, indicators, sealing stopper/dropper bags, maintenance of log books)
• Loading Dry Heat Oven with Vials (check work/fill-in log book)
• Change Oven Charts
• Perform SAP related duties COR6N, Goods Movement transactions (e.g.on Seals, Stoppers, Droppers and Vials)
• Backup Duties include Media Prep, Vial Wash and Traying duties.
  • Cross-trained on vial wash unit to wash vials for fill, prepare vial pans by rinsing with W.F.I., label all Vial Pans with pertinent product information, and complete relevant documentation (vial wash log, dry heat oven log, etc.) as per relevant SOPs
  • Cross-trained on Media Prep for sterility testing of products as per related manufacturing SOP’s including activities such as;
    • Complete relevant batch paperwork, Daily Use of Autoclave to sterilize media for QC Biology Use, Labelling of Sterilized Media Tubes with pertinent product information
    • Wash, store and maintain tubes in media prep room
  • Cross-trained to tray Filled Stock Vials with product identity tags into plastic grey trays after sterile filling operations and store in quarantine cooler.
• Individual must be able to accomplish each assignment listed above.
• Knowledge of all related manufacturing SOP’s is required
• Required to attend periodic cGMP/SOP training sessions as well as company meetings.
• Other duties may be assigned

Skills and Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks
• Must be able to lift up to 5 0 pounds
• Able to work around hazardous chemicals, allergenic antigens and medically qualified to use a respirator and hearing protection without restriction
• Some math aptitude is required
• The ability to read/write English is necessary.
