Job summary

CHI St. Gabriel’s Health in Little Falls is seeking a Lab Assistant to help solve diagnostic challenges by collecting, preparing, and processing a variety of patient specimens for tests. The role requires attention to detail, a commitment to learning, and teamwork within the lab and hospital.

The ideal candidate will identify patients, perform venous and capillary collections, and ensure quality samples while following safety and isolation procedures. A relevant certificate or GED is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within 90 days of start date.
• Certificate from Lab Assistant Program within six months of hire or six months experience in an acute care facility.
• Certificate in Phlebotomy program.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients and adheres to patient safety protocols.
• Demonstrates kindness and courtesy in all interactions.
• Maintains clear communication within the department and with other hospital teams.
• Follows isolation and hand hygiene procedures.
• Performs venous and capillary blood collection across all ages.
• Uses proper collection techniques to obtain quality samples and meets volume requirements.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

• Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions
• Practices HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions
• Establishes and maintains good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
• Compliance with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
• Follows blood collection procedures, performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, including blood bank collections
• Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements

Job Requirements
