Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our team in the Houston area. The role supports phlebotomy, specimen processing and reporting within a fast-paced hospital laboratory.

Qualifications include 2 years of experience and medical terminology; travel is not required. Our team emphasizes ethics, compliance and reliable coverage to ensure high-quality patient care at our Kingwood campus.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts responsibility for own actions and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Adheres to attendance policy and clocks in/out on time.
  • Adheres to schedule and provides coverage; adapts to workflow changes.
  • Adjusts break and lunch times to ensure department coverage.
  • Answers phone by 4th ring and routes messages appropriately.
  • Uses and inventories reagents; orders supplies when needed.
  • Maintains clean and safe work area; ensures no hazards.
  • Assists in phlebotomy/collection and STAT collection in a timely manner.
  • Charts, mails, faxes lab reports to physician offices.
  • Collects, processes, documents and files COC drug screen.
  • Distributes incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Follows Ethics & Compliance policies and completes required training annually.
  • Follows SOP for checking and reconciling CBN tests and related documents.
  • Maintains competency and completes workload within shifts; assists as needed.

Job Summary And Qualifications
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions; offers and accepts constructive criticism in a non – defensive manner.
  • Adheres to hospital attendance and tardiness policy. Appropriately clocks in/out and returns from break and lunch on time.
  • Adheres to schedule and provides coverage in assigned areas. Adaptable to changes in work flow.
  • Adjusts break and lunch times to ensure appropriate department coverage for optimal patient care.
  • Answers phone by 4th ring. Takes messages and transfers calls appropriately. Strictly follows Personal Telephone/Cell Phone Usage policy (916-010).
  • Appropriate use and inventory of reagents and supplies, order supplies when needed.
  • Assists in maintaining general cleanliness and safety of work area to ensures that work area is clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Assists in phlebotomy/collection. Manages STAT collection in timely manner.
  • Correctly and proficiently charts/mails/faxes lab reports to physician mail boxes/offices.
  • Correctly collects, processes/sends, documents and files COC drug screen.
  • Distributes incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Expectations Ethics and Compliance: 1. All employees will be held accountable for attending training regarding the Code of Conduct program at least annually.
  • Follows SOP for checking and reconciling CBN tests and draws. Print/review/reconcile computer reports and work sheets as assigned.
  • Has no unapproved overtime.
  • Maintains competency in designated work areas. Performs appropriate volume of workload within specific time frames. Completes work from previous shifts and assists others as available or needed.
