Job Summary And Qualifications
Is responsible for the daily operations of the Histology laboratory, to include scheduling and direct supervision of all Histology laboratory personnel. Serves as a liaison of the Histology department to provide assistance and address concerns and issues of the medical staff including but not limited to surgery department. Performs clinical laboratory testing in all/or designated areas. Investigates and resolves problems/complaints from physicians, patients and their families, nursing, and other hospital personnel. Insures that laboratory policies and procedures are being followed by laboratory employees. Responsible for follow up, reviewing, and reporting all quality assurance issues including proficiency testing and departmental quality control. Provides counseling and instruction to employees as designated by the Laboratory Director and or designee. Communicates to Laboratory Director and or designee all issues concerning the functions of the Histology laboratory, and works closely with the Laboratory management team to resolve such issues. Assist with preparation of bi‑annual CAP inspections. Completes technical or special projects as assigned. Must be capable of making management decisions in the designated area of responsibility. Responsible for reviewing daily reports as assigned. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. He/she will perform tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Director and or designee within his/her scope of training.
What you will do in this role:
- Actively participates in both departmental and hospital‑wide process improvement efforts.
- Plans and implements through multi‐disciplinary means, strategies to reduce length of stay, and over/inappropriate consumption of resources.
- Recognizes unsafe acts or conditions as defined by Kingwood Medical Center policies and procedures, and takes immediate action to correct.
- Participates in the annual budget process, assisting with the preparation and analysis of departmental financial management information and data, and in the development of action plans to address monthly variances.
- Adheres to established staffing guidelines for shift and obtains approval for variances.
- Monitors staff member practice to assure conservation of supplies and efficient utilization of resources.
- Reviews designated test results daily.
- Responsible for ensuring all charges are properly processed daily.
- Ensures laboratory personnel are utilizing their time efficiently.
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Four years experience in a clinical laboratory
- Two To Three Years Supervisory Experience Preferred
- Medical Lab Scientist, or Histotechnologist
